- The collection was formed in various ways, including acquisitions through auctions and second-hand bookstores in Russia and Europe.
- The library of I. Kh. Kolodeyev entered the collection of the National Library of Belarus in 1926 in the amount of about 8,000 copies. Some of the publications were lost during the Second World War.
- The library of I. Kh. Kolodeyev did not have a bookplate or stamp. Books are identified by a characteristic inscription in the upper left corner on the title page or cover, made in pencil in handwritten font, for example, “Кол 2505” or by book labels with numbers affixed in ink, by dedicatory inscriptions.
