Annotation

Popular in its time Greek novel “History of Apollonius, King of Tyrus” (Historia Apollonii regis Tyri) was the first translation of the work into German language. The translation was made by the German humanist Heinrich Steingavel, who studied in Vienna and Padua and gained popularity with accurate and high-quality translations of antique works. The novel was published by Gunter Zeiner in Augsburg. He was the first to print engraved initials and illustrations along with the text and to publish books with color illustrations. G. Zeiner's printing house published mainly secular books in German language.
