Annotation

This Bible was published in Antwerp in 1629 by a renowned European publishing house founded by Christophe Plantin in 1555. The press was celebrated for the exceptional quality of its editions: typefaces were designed by the finest specialists of the age, while engravings were crafted by master artists and engravers. After Plantin’s death, his legacy was carried on by his heirs, with his son-in-law Jan Moretus taking charge of the Antwerp press. The «House of Plantin» endured for more than 300 years. The publisher's mark was the «Golden Compasses» (a hand holding a pair of compasses), accompanied by the motto «Labore et Constantia» («By labor and constancy»).
