Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz (1646–1716) was a German philosopher, mathematician, mechanician, experimental physicist, lawyer and political adviser, important both as a metaphysician and as a logician. He was the author of «Theodicy». In this work he set down his ideas on divine justice, particularly on the problem of evil, arguing that the actual world is the best of all possible worlds that God could have created.
